Sachham Projects Kathmandu

Sachham Tailoring Training Center

The Sachham Tailoring Training Center is developing very well, in cooperation with the local social foundation Laxmi Pratisthan and thanks to the active support of the project manager at the Swiss Embassy.

Our new location is not far from our original location, conveniently located in Koteshwor-Jadibuti . We were able to furnish the training center appropriately. The premises now offer space for 12-14 training positions, room for production orders for the part-time program, a meeting room, and a small kitchen.

We were also able to hire an experienced teacher and work with her to develop a curriculum that gives participants the opportunity to obtain a state-recognized Nepalese diploma after completing the 'Advanced Course'. Participants learn the most important techniques to be able to independently sew the garments, bags, accessories, etc. that are in demand on the market.

In February 2022 we started a pilot course with 8 participants. Our training program is now known in many parts of Kathmandu and we receive enough registrations through word of mouth.

Sachham start-up aid for women and young people

A total of 111 women have now completed the basic course and 71 the advanced course.
Of these, four women have opened their own businesses thanks to a loan from Sachham, 14 women have found paid employment in tailoring workshops, and 10 women are working in our part-time program. (Follow-up rate ...%)

Sachham Part-Time Work Program

Raising and caring for their children is often the responsibility of women—their husbands work abroad, are long-distance bus drivers, or harvest workers, and are therefore rarely or never at home. This makes it impossible for many women to pursue full-time employment.

With the sanitary pad production project for ShantiMed Nepal, Ruth Gonseth's project in Ratnanagar, Chitwan, we reached precisely these women and gave them the opportunity to work flexibly. We have decided to capitalize on this positive experience and continue to acquire textile orders.
This step means that, in addition to Bishnu Tamang, we need another specialist who has experience with large-scale productions and can guide the women accordingly.
At the same time, we also see the step of offering mass production as Module 3 of our training (Advanced+) , in which we provide participants with additional knowledge about mass production.
